Doran Racing Qualifies Fifth and Tenth
For Saturday's CTSCC Race at CTMP
BOWMANVILLE, Ontario, July 10 - Brad Jaeger celebrated his 30th birthday on Friday by qualifying fifth for Saturday afternoon's Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Driving Doran Racing's #14 Nissan 370Z that advertises Nissan's GT Academy, Jaeger was just 0.229 of a second off third place and 1.336 off the pole.
The Charlottesville, Va.-based driver turned the 2.459-mile, 10-turn road course in 1:27.797 to record his fastest lap on lap six of the seven laps he turned in the 15-minute qualifying session.
His co-driver, B.J. Zacharias of Cincinnati, topped the charts in the first practice session on Friday morning with a 1:27.538. The #14 was seventh in the second practice session Friday afternoon with a 1:28.722.
A sister car, the #41 Doran Racing Nissan 370Z, will start tenth in tomorrow's 2.5-hour race after Nick McMillen of Salem, Ore., posted a 1:30.138 during qualifying. He had a problem with the car's ABS system during the session, but both he and his co-driver, Steven Doherty of Plainfield, Ill., have high hopes for tomorrow's race. Both are making their first starts at this particular track.
The #41 was 11th in the first practice session with a 1:30.197. It was eighth in the second practice session with a 1:29.650, only 0.928 off its sister car, which has been on the podium at the last two events.
Tomorrow's race starts at 1:25 p.m. Eastern time. It will be broadcast live on imsa.com. It will also be shown on Fox Sports 1 at noon Eastern on Sunday, July 19.
Additional information is available on DoranRacing.com and the team's Facebook page.
Post qualifying quotes follow:
Brad Jaeger: "I think all things considered, fifth is a great place to start the race from. The Mustangs are strong, but we're right in the mix. I think we'll have a good race. We want long green runs and to be there at the end.
"The team is awesome; they've been working hard to get the car ready for qualifying and the race, and we hope for a good day tomorrow.
"They had a red-velvet birthday cake for me before qualifying, and I think it helped!"
Nick McMillen: "I followed Brad onto the track on our out lap, and I was trying to pace myself so I didn't get caught in traffic. I got through the first four or five corners on my first flying lap, and I was trying to get more temperature in the tires, but then after the Andretti straight I went under the bridge and all four tires locked up. The ABS light was on. I talked to Kevin on the radio and we tried to reset it, but we didn't have ABS the rest of the session. So, I just tried to drive around and put in a reasonable lap, but I couldn't push it. I didn't get to put in a real flying lap at all.
"The good news is the car felt really good. I think we'll have good pace tomorrow for the race. We'll just have to be clean. I look forward to making passes and to try to move up through the field tomorrow."
